Lifetime aired another film based on an incredible true story. “The Girl Who Escaped: The Kara Robinson Story” was added to the 2023 ‘Ripped from the Headlines’ movie lineup. It told the story of then 15 year old Kara, who was kidnapped right from her friend’s house in South Carolina. As the sole survivor of a ruthless serial killer, this girl let these circumstances change her life for good. Find out who she is, what she is doing now, and more.

Who is Kara Robinson?

Kara Robinson was kidnapped straight from her friend’s front lawn as she watered the plants around the house in South Carolina in the summer of 2002. A man in a black car drove up and began questioning if her parents were home, soon before putting a gun in Kara’s face and snatching her. Kara endured torturous days in his house while his wife was away on vacation. As a young 15 year old girl, she demonstrated amazing strength and control, keeping her mind solely on surviving.

She was unaware that the man who kidnapped her was in fact Richard Evonitz, a serial killer. Her mother Debra Johnson, father, friend Jess, boyfriend Ryan along with the police were all anxious to get Kara back. Kara ended up escaping her cap tor and making her way to safety.
