Lifetime is getting ready to premiere Let’s Get Physical starring Jenna Dewan. It is inspired by true events. It has not been confirmed by Lifetime, however through some research we are pretty certain the true story behind the Lifetime original movie. The movie will air as part of the “Ripped from the Headlines” movie event. Let’s learn more about the true story of Let’s Get Physical.

What is the True Story of Let’s Get Physical?

Let’s Get Physical produced by Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos centers around a zumba fitness instructor. Her name is Alexis Wright. The outwardly sweet and friendly young lady was leading a double life. During the day she’d teach Zumba to her students in the picturesque town of Kennebunk in Maine.

On the side, she was running a prostitution ring. According to detectives, she kept impeccable records of all her clients. Thanks to that, prosecutors were able to figure out who the alleged johns were and charge them with crimes, too.

“Anyone who knew Alexis from the Maine town that was famous for Tom’s Toothpaste would all think she was a sweet woman…but she isn’t!” This is how an entry on a blog started in 2010 when her true identity was starting to get exposed.

She was described as small, pretty and fit.  Wright was petite at only 5’2”.  She grew up in Maine, not far from Kennebunk.  She had a son in 2005 and was said to still be active in her son’s life.

In 2010, she arrived in Kennebunk in hopes of opening up a dance studio.  It was located in a small strip mall accompanying other businesses like a nail salon and pizza shop.  She named it Pura Vida.

In addition to her dance studio, she also ran Sensual Body Work by Lydia and advertised her massage services.  Residents of Kennebunk recall Alexis in lingerie on the photo of the ad.

How Was She Busted?

The 2010 blog post was one of the first to expose Alexis.  It only grew and by September of 2011, the local police were getting inundated with complaints from the residents and business owners in the community.  They were all noticing men entering her place of business at all hours of the day and night.

On Valentine’s Day of 2012, police searched Alexis Wright’s home and office.  They were astounded to find out just how sophisticated her business was.  They calculated she collected $150,000 for her services in a little over a year and a half.

Nearly 60 men were charged in connected with Alexis’s prostitution ring.

Alexis Wright was served 10 months in jail.  In November 2013, she was released from prison after serving nearly six months for engaging in prostitution.

She was greeted and picked up by her husband, Jason Trowbridge.
