The Christmas Contest on Hallmark Channel: What is the Movie About?

Lara (Candace Cameron Bure) and her ex, Ben (John Brotherton) learn there’s a Christmas contest with a cash prize for a charity of the winner’s choosing. Business consultant Lara would use the money for the senior center her mother, Donna (Barbara Niven) attends because it needs repairs. Retired baseball star Ben would help a local youth sports team – but, could he really be in it for the press it would give his failing career?

On the first day of the competition, they both show up, unaware the other is competing as well. The contest heats up with tons of Christmas-themed challenges, making Lara and Ben realize they have more in common than just their love of the holiday. So, they have a decision to make: what’s more important – winning the contest or finding true love?

Candace Cameron Bure as Lara

Candace Cameron Bure is perhaps best known for her role as DJ Tanner/D.J. Tanner-Fuller on Full and Fuller House, respectively. Aside from that, she’s known for being the “Queen of Christmas” for Hallmark Channel, since she’s starred in a wide variety of holiday films for the network. In addition to her many Christmas-themed movies, she portrays Aurora Teagarden in the eponymous mystery movies too. As if her resume wasn’t impressive enough, she started her own clothing line, and routinely updates her millions of followers on Instagram on her and her family’s day-to-day life.

John Brotherton as Ben

John Brotherton is actually Candace’s former co-star from Fuller House. He portrayed Matt Harmon in the hit Netflix series. His character was linked with Candace’s DJ in the show. But, that was before she ended up marrying her high school sweetheart Steve (Scott Weinger). Other credits to his name include: The Conjuring, Furious 7, and One Life to Live.

Fun Facts on the Full Cast of The Christmas Contest

John Brotherton is married to Allison Raimondi and together they have two children. John recently took to Instagram to wish all a Happy Thanksgiving from he and his family.

He also runs a talk called The Fantasy Football Cause which is the “home of guilt free #fantasyfootball where every week @jayhayden00 and I talk fantasy, chat with celebrities, all while raising money for #charity !!!”

Kingston Gomes is a bright and energetic young actor based out of Vancouver, Canada. He was even in a Marvel commercial. Here you can see a photo from that commercial.

He is also a big Spiderman fan as you can see him dressed as Spiderman as a toddler and even seven years later still choosing that same outfit.

Matteus Lund is also another Vancouver based actor.
