What is Notes of Autumn about?

Ellie (Ashley Williams) is a classically trained pianist who gave up her passion and now works at a hotel in the city. She always seems to be getting things wrong when musical inspiration strikes. Her best friend Leo (Luke Macfarlane) lives on the outskirts of British Columbia, Canada. He’s an author who can’t finish the next installment in his series because of writer’s block. Realizing they both need a change of scenery as autumn sets in, they decide to swap places.

As they adjust to their new surroundings, Ellie helps Leo’s neighbor Sam (Marcus Rosner) and Leo meets Ellie’s friend Matt (Peter Porte). While helping Sam with the musical performance for the local fundraiser, Ellie comes to terms with why she quit music years ago. Meanwhile, as Leo gets to know Matt, he opens himself up to writing something different. These newfound friendships turn into something more meaningful as Ellie and Leo enjoy the autumn season. They both soon discover their hearts belong somewhere very different than they ever thought possible.

Who’s in the Cast of Notes of Autumn?

Ashley Williams as Ellie

Ashley Williams starred in Hallmark’s Sister Swap: A Hometown Holiday and Five More Minutes: Moments Like These. Other credits include The Jim Gaffigan Show, Good Morning Miami and How I Met Your Mother. Williams also starred in Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater, Two Tickets to Paradise and the Christmas in Evergreen trilogy for Hallmark Channel. She is married to husband Neal Dodson with whom she has two children. Her sister is Kimberly Williams-Paisley, wife of country musician Brad Paisley. 

Luke Macfarlane as Leo 

Luke Macfarlane appeared in the feature film Bros and AppleTV+’s Platonic. He’s been in a number of Hallmark movies as well, including A Valentine’s Match, Christmas in My Heart, Moriah’s Lighthouse and Taking a Shot at Love. Fans may also recognize Luke from his roles on Killjoys or Brothers and Sisters. Macfarlane and partner Hig Roberts welcomed their first child together in summer 2023.

Marcus Rosner as Sam 

Marcus Rosner starred in From Italy with Amore and The Love Club. Another familiar face to Hallmark, Rosner appeared in films like Poinsettias for Christmas, A Christmas Detour, and the In the Vineyard trilogy. On TV, Marcus starred in Unreal, Arrow, Supernatural and Once Upon a Time. Most recently, you may have seen him recur in the Hallmark Channel original series Ride. On December 30, 2021, Marcus married wife Ali Kroeker. 

Peter Porte as Matt 

Peter Porte appeared in Days of Our Lives and A Christmas to Cherish. In addition, he starred in The Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem and Baby Daddy. Other Hallmark movies Porte appeared in are A Gift to Remember, Love Once and Always and Rome in Love. The 39-year-old is married to Jacob Villere.
