Are You There God It’s Me, Margaret popularly written by Judy Blume is getting made into a movie! Rachel McAdams will star alongside Kathy Bates, Abby Ryder Fortson and Benny Safdie. It is set for a theater release in the US on April 28, 2023.
The movie is based on the popular book by famed children’s author, Judy Blume in 1970. It centers around Margaret Simon and her parents. She is growing up without any religious affiliation. Margaret is being raised by her Christian mother and Jewish father. When she starts entering her adolescent years, she begins to ask questions regarding faith, religion, and puberty.
Rachel McAdams as Barbara Simon, Margaret’s mother
Rachel is a 44 year old Canadian born actor. She has had many popular movie roles in the USA including the iconic character of Regina George in Mean Girls, starring opposite Lindsay Lohan. Rachel also starred as Allie in The Notebook, Becky in Morning Glory, and Paige in The Vow.
She is most recently starring as Barbara Simon in the Judy Blume inspired movie slated for a 2023 release. Rachel has been married to her husband Jamie Linden since 2016 and they have two children together, a son and a daughter.
Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret Simon
Abby is a 14 year old American actress from Burbank, California. You may recognize her from her roles in The Whisperers, Ant-Man, and Transparent.
Prior to landing her lead role as Margaret, she played a young C.J. in the movie, A Dog’s Journey in 2019. Abby is also the daughter of actress Christie Lynn Smith who has had roles in 7th Heaven, Charmed, and Criminal Minds.

Benny Safdie as Herb Simon, Margaret’s father
Benny is a 36 year old actor from New York City. He portrays Margaret’s Jewish father, Herb and he happens to be Jewish in real life as well.
He has been married to his wife Ava since 2013. They have two children together.
