The Girl Who Escaped: The Kara Robinson Story Synopsis

15-year-old Kara Robinson (Katie Douglas) was watering plants in her best friend’s yard in South Carolina when she was approached by a man who put a gun to her neck, forced her into a plastic storage container and drove off. He took Kara to his apartment where she was held captive and sexually assaulted for 18 hours. Kara memorized as many details as she could throughout the ordeal and when her captor was asleep, she escaped the restraints and fled the apartment.

Thanks to her earlier instincts, Kara was able to lead police back to the apartment’s location and identify her assailant as Richard Evonitz (Kristian Bruun). It turned out Evonitz was a serial killer responsible for the unsolved murders of at least three other girls. Cara Buono (Stranger Things) portrays Kara’s mother Debra.

Immediately following the premiere of The Girl Who Escaped: The Kara Robinson Story is the premiere of the two-hour documentary special Escaping Captivity: The Kara Robinson Story, which features interviews with not only Kara herself, but her family, friends, and the law enforcement officers who aided the case. Elizabeth Smart and Kara Robinson Chamberlain executive produced the documentary.
