Candy Montgomery was a young 30 year old mother and wife at the time of her crime. She was living a quaint and picturesque life with her children and husband in the small town of Wylie, Texas. She was a church-going woman who attended the United Methodist church where she met a lot of her friends. One of those friends was Betty Gore. Candy was viewed as a very likable woman who often caught the attention of men.
She grew up as an army brat and was used to moving around a lot as a kid. Candy was looking for excitement in her mundane life when she propositioned Betty Gore’s husband, Pat to start a no-strings attached affair.

Candy Montgomery was born in 1949 and is now in her early 70’s. After an 8-day trial, she was never sentenced to jail time in her confession of killing her friend, Betty Gore. In working with a psychiatrist, she claimed she reacted in self defense and was also diagnosed with having a dissociative reaction. Candy confessed that once Betty found out about the affair, she attacked her with an ax and Candy reacted in self dense. The crime took place on June 13, 1980. However, the jury acquitted Candy Montgomery of charges on October 29, 1980.
Her exact current whereabouts aren’t known, but Candy Montgomery is said to be living in the south. She goes by her maiden name of Wheeler. She moved after her trial with her family to Georgia but the couple ended up divorcing four years later. Candy also chose a different career path and has been working as a mental health worker, according to Newsweek.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Jessica Biel who portrayed Candy Montgomery in the Hulu series, “Candy” tried to reach out to the real life Candy. She wanted insight into who she was as a person at the time to prepare for her role. However, her request was rejected.

A short three months after his wife’s trial, Allan was re-married. This time to a woman named Elaine Clift and they relocated to another town in Texas, about 30 minutes outside of Dallas. At first Allan and Betty’s daughters lived with Allan and his new wife. However, when the girls were mistreated, the authorities stepped in. Betty’s parents were granted custody of Lisa and Bethany.
Allan Gore is still estranged from his daughters, Alisa and Bethany, currently and wasn’t invited to their weddings. However, they are friends on Facebook according to Line Fame. Bethany works as a teacher and her sister Alisa is in corporate according to the Star Telegram.
Bethany is married to a man named Chad. She and her husband have three children together and live in Las Vegas.

Pat and Candy married in the 1970’s and together had a son and daughter. In 1977, they moved to the quaint town of Wylie, Texas. Pat had a very prestigious job as an electrical engineer at Texas Instruments, making a very good salary.
After the couple moved to a different city in Texas, they soon after divorced. Since, very little has been known about Pat Montgomery’s whereabouts. One source said that he now goes by the name of James instead of Pat.
The names of Pat and Candy’s kids were changed in the documentaries but it seems their real names are Jennifer and Ian. Ian is married to a woman named Dena and lives in Marietta, Georgia. As of 2023, Ian is 48 years old. Jennifer is also married and is married to a man named Don. They live in Georgia as well. Jennifer Hosea is currently 50 years old.
